A Success Story

I feel compelled to write about this today because so often the positive stories are ignored in the news as we all know.
For those not from around here, you probably wouldn't know about the huge 3 day concert that took place in Asbury Park this weekend called Bamboozle. This was a big undertaking for a small city that has struggled over the past years. I'm sure most of you if you have heard of Asbury have only heard the negative. But over the past five years or so it is having a renaissance and has new life and purpose. It has always been the heart of the infamous/famous music scene. The Stone Pony and the Paramount theatre are the beacons of hope that have remained even in the town's hardest of times. Now they are surrounded by wonderful restaurants and shops and other destinations both at the boardwalk and in the center of town.
To have Bamboozle in this now thriving little city was a big step towards its comeback. Many skeptics said it couldn't be done (myself included). It wasn't ready.
But beyond ready they were. This concert brought upwards of 100,000 people over the course of the weekend. 60,000 were estimated to have been there on Sat. Bon Jovi played....the Foo Fighter played....and a lot of other names that I don't know because I'm too old. The wrist bands had chips in them so they could be tracked. A security feature and a comfort to the parents of the thousands of young adults that attended.
I was blown away by the order, the courtesy of the crowd, the efficiency of the police department (they were having a good time, too).
I can't say enough about the amazing job they all did. Hats off to you, Asbury Park.
I only wish the media would have covered this. You deserve the positive publicity!
I have always been proud to be a Jersey girl, but I'm even more so today!

Working Hard

Like everyone else, I've been working hard around the inn, especially outside in the gardens. Took some random pictures to show you.....
Not a lot of flowers yet, plus I have a lot of shade, but things are filling in nicely. Also, had a beautiful bride here last weekend. I just love when they take pictures under my arbor. I bought that thing totally on impulse. A guy came to my door with it on the back of his truck. He had just made it and thought it would be great in front of the inn. Of course I totally agreed, and I can't even remember how he got it out of the truck and on to my lawn. When the tree fell on the inn, that was the first thing I thought of. "I hope it didn't fall on my arbor". (What about the house or a person, you idiot?) Do you think I have my priorities in order?

Little hints of the upcoming summer are beginning to show themselves. Favorite places that are only open in season had their preview openings this weekend. We were busy getting things in order around here, but we stopped at 3:00 to go to The Parker House, which is a great place to sit outside and enjoy their raw bar and other tasty food. It has a Key West feel to it, and it's only five minutes down the road. I've been going there since I was young, and it is still going strong after all these years.
After we ate a little too much, went back home and back to sprucing things up around here. I have been working very hard in my barn so I can have my first sale the beginning of June. More on that later in the week. I'm busy organizing everything and finally making headway. Worked on my patio, too, as I will have things for sale out there also. I am addicted to this Provence color. I've been painting everything this color lately. There was a time when my husband was afraid to stand still for fear I would stencil him. Well, now he's afraid I'll paint him blue!
Took the dogs on the beach, and found this cool piece of driftwood. Am I crazy or does it look exactly like a shark?
Last but not least, went to one of my favorite consignment shops. Sailor Trading Company is in a really cool old building and is ever changing. You never know what you will find.
That was basically my weekend.....can't wait to show you the inside of the barn when it's done......bye for now!

Thinking Flowers

Haven't been able to get outside much yet. The weather has been beautiful, but with an inn there is a lot of inside work to do to get ready for the season. Also a lot of paperwork (grrr) which I do not enjoy. Also doing a Communion brunch here on Sunday, so much to do for that.
So I'm just posting a few pictures of flowers around the house, that are not real but they make me smile nevertheless!

Just a Quick Hi

Just a quick post to say hi. I have been without a computer for about a month. My old one got a virus. Cleaned that up and had it for about a week and it crashed. Now have a brand spankin new one after much angst and nailbiting. Having an inn at the shore and having your computer crash right before the season is not exactly a good thing.
Now I have to find my software to load my camera onto this computer and I think I can get back to normal. Going to get a new website for the inn, too.
Busy, busy, but all good.
I have a lot of reading to catch up on all of you, too.
Happy Spring!!!
